Xiaomi Pad 5 series announced in China

Xiaomi has announced the arrival of two new tablets known under the Xiaomi Pad 5 series.

Launched in China, the tablets come in two variants the tablets are named the Pad 5 and the Pad 5 Pro.

Both tablets are aimed as an entertainment tablet, and therefore seem to fall rather short of being able to take on or compete with either the Apple iPad Pro M1 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+, which are two tablets meant to replace your daily computer.

Xiaomi Pad 5 series highlights

Regardless, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to shout about when it comes to the pair.

Both tablets will have an 11-inch 1440p+ 120Hz IPS LCD screens with Dolby Vision and HDR10 support, with the Pro variant obviously having better hardware specifications if compared to the base variant.

For starters, the Pro variants gets 8 speakers with Dolby Atmos support, while the basic model is equipped with a quad-speaker setup on each corner.  Four speakers at every corner still sounds sweet in my opinion.

The Pro variant also enjoys the newer and faster Snapdragon 870 processor which a possibility of 5G support, while the base model gets the Snapdragon 860 processor.

In terms of power input, the Pro variant gets 67w fast charge while the base one accommodates only 33w fast charging.

Interestingly, the Mi Pad 5 Pro has a smaller 8,600 mAh battery if compared to the Mi Pad 5 which has a bigger 8,720 mAh battery.

These tablets are Wi-Fi ready only, which means you can’t ‘poke’ in a SIM to get independent internet connectivity.

On top of that, the Tab 5 series also has a stylus and keyboard cover which can be used to ‘write’ and speed up typing on the tab.

Price and availability

For now, neither of the tablets are available in Malaysia, which isn’t a surprise since we are always ‘late to the party’.

However, if you are keen to be among the first to grab the tablets, a search on both Lazada and Shopee might result in you finding some sellers bringing the tablets via unofficial channels.

Else, we can just wait and hope Xiaomi Malaysia brings in the duo soonest.
