The native language Iban, which is predominantly spoeken in Sarawak, Malaysia and Borneo island in general, is now available on Google Translate which is a service that translates different kinds of languages over the web.
The announcement of the inclusion of the language was made by Google on Google’s official blog The Keyword last June 27.
Along side Iban, other languages such as Cantonese, Afar, Tok Pisin and Tamazight make up the new 110 added languages to the Google Translate service which uses artificial intelligence (AI).
According the blog, these new languages represent more than 614 million speakers and therefore opens up translations for around 8% of the world’s population.
The blog also said that about a quarter of the new languages come from Africa, including Fon, Kikongo, Luo, Ga, Swati, Venda and Wolof.
