I have a soft spot for Xiaomi smartphones so when the Xiaomi Mix 4 was announced, it got my attention although this post is later than the smartphone’s announcement day.
Just to refresh your memory, the Mi Mix was the first ‘borderless’ smartphone.
If I am not mistaken, it was a concept smartphone and was really nice because it had no notch.
It didn’t sell in Malaysia officially then, but later models, did make it to Malaysia.
Thanks to the price and its scarce availibitilty, I never owned one, but I am still keen in the Mix 4 because personally, it is the phone to beat from Xiaomi.
Xiaomi Mix 4 highlights
So what are the things to highlight about the Mix 4?
First, it features a CUP full-screen display with the front camera hidden in the screen.
This means you get a full screen without any ugly notch or dot at the upper chin on the smartphone.
The screen is also a nicely crafted curved AMOLED 3D with HDR10+, 10-bit TrueColor, offering a 5000000:1 contrast ratio and Dolby Vision.
Under the screen is the front camera. The selfie camera is a 20MP CUP front camera which offers 1.6μm 4-in-1 Super Pixel capabilities. To put it simply, the front camera is good.
Behind, the rear camera comes with 50x periscope camera, 108MP main camera and a free-form ultra-wide angle camera. It’s not the latest camera, but it is capable of making good shots.
Under the hood is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ processor, which offers 3GHz Cortex-X1 leading speed.
When the smartphone runs out of juice, you can easily get it back filled with the 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging.
This feature means you can get the smartphone at 80 percent charge in 10 minutes on wired fast charging. That’s pretty good to me.

Xiaomi Mix 4 price and availability
The Xiaomi Mix 4 starts at CNY 4,999 (RM3,262) with the peak variant hitting CNY 6,299 (RM4,110).
While it does seem rather pricey, but if you compare this smartphone to other brands, it does seem like the bargains.
As usual, China has first dibs on the Xiaomi smartphones and sales is scheduled for August 16.
The Mix 4 will debut internationally on another day, and this includes its availability in Malaysia.
If you want to own the Mix 4 before its official debut by Xiaomi Malaysia, scour both Shopee and Lazada because there is a chance someone would be trying to sell the smartphone before it officially lands here.
