Free 1GB internet in Malaysia extended to 24 hours now

On 5 June, the Malaysian Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin announced 1GB free internet for all Malaysians until the end of the year.

The free data was part of the PENJANA Stimulus package which aims to bolster the Malaysian economy after being hit by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Initially offered from 8AM to 6PM, the free data will now be usable 24-hours with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for Malaysians using Celcom, Maxis, Digi and U Mobile.

The 1GB free internet is to be used for productivity purposes, namely education purposes, read news and do video conferencing.

One must note however that the free data validity is subject to availability by individual telcos.

Regardless, the extension of the free data is good news for those looking to own more data these days as the government has technically given 30GB worth of data for use until the end of the year.
