Samsung has officially announced a beta program for a major Bixby upgrade integrated into One UI 8.5, transforming the assistant into a more sophisticated, conversational device agent.
This new iteration focuses on reducing user effort by allowing for intuitive device control through natural language rather than specific technical commands.
According to Won-Joon Choi, COO of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, this redesign aims to reduce friction in everyday tasks by enabling the assistant to understand a user’s intent from simple descriptions.
For instance, a user can simply state they do not want their screen to time out while they are looking at it, and Bixby will automatically identify and activate the “Keep Screen on While Viewing” setting without requiring manual navigation through menus.
Beyond simple commands, the updated Bixby can now identify current device states to troubleshoot issues and offer contextual solutions.
If a user asks why their screen remains on in their pocket, Bixby can pinpoint the cause and suggest enabling Accidental Touch Protection directly.
Additionally, the assistant now features real-time web search capabilities that display results within its own interface, allowing users to find information—such as hotels with specific amenities—without being redirected to a separate browser.
The update is currently available in select markets including the US, UK, and Korea.
