Not sure if its just me, but it seems like Xiaomi is releasing a new smartphone model almost on a monthly basis.
Next up, is the Redmi 5 and Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus which Xiaomi would be launching on December 7.
According to GizmoChina, the duo would be Xiaomi’s second model series, after the Mi Mix series, to get the trendy full screen display which allows an aspect ratio of 18:9.
If you aren’t familiar with Xiaomi model line-up, Redmi phones are usually more budget friendly focused, with the quality of the screen, processor, body built and cameras being the usual sacrifice. I’ve used both the Mi and Redmi series, and there is indeed quite a gap between both series, especially in the camera department.
Xioami seems keen nonetheless to decrease this gap with the Redmi Note 4, as they introduced a budget smartphone with a Snapdragon processor which was well received by many a year back.
This time around, if rumours are to be trusted, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will see this gap of difference get even smaller.
Purported leaks have suggested that the Redmi 5 would come with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a screen resolutions of 1440 x 720 pixels.
Under the hood of the Redmi 5 is a Snapdragon 450 processor matched with 3GB RAM with two variants of internal storage made available; a 16GB and 32GB.
For photography, a single 12MP shooter is said to be featured at the rear, while the selfie camera is a 5MP shooter.
The Redmi 5 Plus on the other hand comes with a 5.99-inch FHD+ screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor and would feature a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera set-up at the back.
The confirmed specifications for both phones is the 4,000mAh battery.
In terms of pricing, rumours suggest that the Redmi 5 would be priced at RMB699 (RM430), while its larger brother the Redmi 5 Plus would come at RMB999 (RM615) – pretty cheap for the specs.
