Myanmar telco MyTel, is keen to cover 90% of Myanmar’s population by the first quarter of next year as it works hard to extend its 4G only network in the country.
The fourth telco of Myanmar was awarded a mobile licence in January 2017, and they have since aimed to invest almost $1.5 billion to roll out 7,200 base stations nation-wide.
Currently, MyTel is sharing its infrastructure with MecTel, but improvements in MyTel’s infrastructure would see it compete head-on with state-owned market leaders MPT which holds a 44% market share; and Telenor Myanmar and Ooredoo Myanmar which both have 37% and 19% market share respectively.
MyTel is a joint venture between Vietnamese group Viettel and Myanmar National Tele & Communications (MNTC), with the former holding 49% of the investment for the network, with MyTel keeping the majority. – PhoneSentral.com
