Design the Ultimate Nothing Phone (3a) & Win!

Nothing, the London-based tech innovator, has ignited excitement with the announcement of its 2025 Community Edition Project, a follow-up to their wildly successful 2024 campaign with a competition related to the Nothing Phone (3a).

Building on the momentum of their limited edition glow-in-the-dark Phone (2a) Plus, which sold out in a mere 15 minutes and recently snagged a Gold iF Design Award, Nothing is again tapping into the creative power of its community.

This year’s project introduces four distinct briefs, encompassing hardware, accessories, software, and marketing, offering participants a broader canvas to showcase their talents.

Notably, Nothing is offering a £1,000 cash prize to each winner, adding a significant incentive to this collaborative endeavor.

The 2025 project invites participants to conceptualize the ultimate version of the Phone (3a), fostering a direct collaboration between the winning creators and the Nothing team.

From March 26th to April 23rd, individuals and teams can submit their ideas across the four categories.

The hardware brief challenges designers to reimagine the Phone (3a)’s aesthetic, while the accessory brief calls for unique, collectible additions.

The software design category focuses on enhancing the user interface with custom wallpapers, widgets, and icon packs, ensuring a cohesive on-screen experience.

Finally, the marketing campaign brief encourages entrants to develop innovative launch strategies and creative visuals.

In a nutshell, the competition, the four stages for the Community Edition Project 2025 are explained below.

  • Hardware Design
    • Developing a fresh look and feel of Phone (3a)
  • Accessory Design
    • The creation of an exclusive collectable or accessory to ship with Phone (3a) Community Edition
  • Software Design
    • UI elements that make the on-screen experience as unique as the hardware design, such as a wallpaper series, widget, clock icon pack etc.
  • Marketing Campaign
    • A creative proposal that informs creative deliverables such as key visuals, a launch moment or an event.
