REDMAGIC Astra 2 Malaysia: 185Hz OLED Gaming Tablet With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Liquid Cooling and 8,300mAh Battery

REDMAGIC has officially launched the Astra 2 Gaming Tablet in Malaysia, bringing flagship-level hardware, a 185Hz OLED display and an advanced liquid cooling system to gamers looking for a powerful but portable gaming device.

The REDMAGIC Astra 2 is built around a 9.06-inch form factor and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with REDMAGIC’s dedicated RedCore R4 gaming chip.

Unlike gaming devices that focus mainly on peak benchmark numbers, REDMAGIC says the Astra 2 is designed for sustained performance during long gaming sessions, with its cooling, battery and system optimisation working together to maintain consistent performance.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers the REDMAGIC Astra 2

At the heart of the REDMAGIC Astra 2 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform.

The processor is designed to handle demanding mobile games and intensive multitasking, while REDMAGIC’s RedCore R4 gaming chip adds dedicated gaming-focused processing capabilities.

The tablet also comes with Energy Cube 3.0, a system-level optimisation engine that dynamically manages resources including the CPU, GPU, memory, cooling and touch response according to the gaming scenario.

The REDMAGIC Astra 2 is available with configurations of up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, giving users plenty of room for large games and other performance-intensive applications.

185Hz OLED display is the main attraction

One of the biggest highlights of the Astra 2 is its 9.06-inch 2.4K OLED display.

The panel features a resolution of 2,400 x 1,504 pixels and an ultra-high 185Hz refresh rate, which REDMAGIC describes as the highest refresh rate offered on a tablet.

For gamers, the high refresh rate is designed to provide smoother motion and more responsive gameplay, particularly in fast-paced titles.

The display can reach up to 1,600 nits peak brightness and 1,100 nits global brightness. It also features a Synaptics S3930 touch system, with a 300Hz average touch sampling rate and up to 2,000Hz instant touch sampling.

The screen also has a 90.1% screen-to-body ratio, slim 4.9mm bezels and SGS-certified low blue light protection.

AquaCore Cooling System 2.0 brings liquid cooling to a tablet

Gaming tablets can generate considerable heat during extended sessions, and REDMAGIC is placing considerable emphasis on thermal management with the Astra 2.

The tablet features the AquaCore Cooling System 2.0, which combines liquid cooling, Liquid Metal 3.0 and a large VC vapor chamber.

REDMAGIC says the Astra 2 is the industry’s first tablet to feature a liquid cooling system, with the technology designed to improve heat transfer and help maintain performance during extended gaming.

The system uses micron-level liquid flow channels, piezoelectric ceramic micropumps and fluorinated coolant. Liquid Metal 3.0 sits above the vapor chamber to help transfer heat from the CPU, while the VC chamber uses a 4D structure with dual-side protrusions to improve heat dissipation.

The cooling system is also sealed and designed to be leak-resistant and non-conductive.

8,300mAh battery with 75W fast charging

The REDMAGIC Astra 2 packs an 8,300mAh dual-cell battery, designed to provide extended endurance for gaming, streaming and other entertainment.

When it is time to recharge, the tablet supports 75W fast charging, with REDMAGIC stating that a full charge can take as little as 60 minutes through the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port.

Another interesting feature is its dual USB-C design.

The short-side USB-C port supports charging at up to 75W, while the long-side port supports up to 40W. This allows users to choose a charging orientation that better suits their setup while gaming.

The tablet also supports two-way reverse charging, while the side USB-C port can be used for audio output.

Transparent gaming design with RGB lighting

The Astra 2 continues REDMAGIC’s distinctive gaming-focused design language.

It features a metal frame combined with a glass-accented transparent rear panel that showcases elements of its liquid cooling system and RGB lighting.

Despite its flagship hardware, the tablet retains a compact 9.06-inch form factor, making portability one of its key selling points.

For durability, the Astra 2 comes with IP54-rated water and dust resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Audio is handled by symmetrical dual 1227 stereo speakers with DTS Ultra certification, while dual 0815 X-axis linear motors provide 4D stereo haptic feedback.

There is also a multifunctional Magic Key, giving users quick access to GameSpace and other controls.

Android 16 and REDMAGIC OS 11.5

The REDMAGIC Astra 2 runs REDMAGIC OS 11.5 based on Android 16.

Beyond gaming, REDMAGIC has equipped the tablet with a 13MP rear camera and a 9MP front camera. The cameras are supported by AI imaging features, while AI-powered input tools are designed to assist with everyday communication and content creation.

Connectivity includes Bluetooth 6.0, DisplayPort output supporting up to 4K at 144fps or 8K at 60fps, and USB 3.2 Gen 2.

The tablet also includes a range of sensors and supports both fingerprint and facial recognition for unlocking.
