HONOR X9a 5G preview and highlights

HONOR Malaysia is set to launch the HONOR X9a 5G on January 4th next year, so I’m doing this post as a preview and to see highlights of the smartphone.

In case you didn’t know, the X9a 5G is a new variant of the X9 Series which was launched by the brand last June 2022 in Malaysia.

I reviewed that smartphone (X9) back then, and you can read the review in the links below this preview.

HONOR X9a 5G highlights

While the X9a 5G is from the same X9 Series, the specifications are a definite upgrade from the X9 variant which was launch mid this year.

According to the specification sheet, the X9a 5G is not only smaller and thinner, but also lighter at just 175g.

The screen is is a 6.67-inch, FHD+, curved edge OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate which has a 300Hz touch sampling rate and 100% coverage DCI-P3 colour gamut.

This is a definite upgrade from the X9 which only boast of an LCD IPS screen.

In addition, the screen is capable of a peak brightness of 800nits, with 1920Hz PWM dimming and comes with TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification.

But the major highlight isn’t how big or how bright the screen is, but rather how tough it is made, despite being a curved screen.

Based on videos shared to me below, the screen can break different kind of nuts which is something I look forward to when I do my review of the unit which is coming out in January next year.

Other highlights of the X9a smartphone include the 64MP camera system which leads its triple camera set-up, the 5,100mAh battery and the pairing of 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM.

Also, the smartphone runs on the Magic UI 6.1 which is based on Android 12.

There’s three colours reserved for the smartphone namely Titanium Silver, Emerald Green and Midnight Black, but which I am not sure which colour will be available in Malaysia for now.

Also, so far, there’s no word about the price of the X9a 5G for Malaysia, but HONOR Malaysia is organizing a contest where you can guess the price of the X9a 5G and win a unit yourself.
