Suunto has launched the Suunto Run 2 in Malaysia, a lightweight running smartwatch featuring a 2,000-nit AMOLED display, dual-band GNSS, offline maps and up to 10 days of battery life.
Designed for road running and marathon training, the new smartwatch weighs just 35g and launches alongside the Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2.
The Suunto Run 2 builds on its predecessor with several upgrades aimed at runners, including a brighter display, increased battery capacity, an improved 12-channel wrist heart rate sensor and new-generation dual-band GNSS.
Designed for everyone from beginners preparing for their first marathon to experienced runners chasing personal bests, the watch combines running metrics, training insights and recovery monitoring in a lightweight design.
Suunto Run 2: Lightweight Design with Brighter AMOLED Display
Weighing only 35g and measuring 11.7mm thick, the Suunto Run 2 is designed for comfortable all-day wear, including during sleep and extended training sessions.
It features a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with peak brightness exceeding 2,000 nits, making running metrics easier to read under direct sunlight. According to Suunto, the display is three times brighter than the one found on the original Suunto Run.
Battery capacity has also increased by 29%, delivering approximately 10 days of everyday use with training and up to 24 hours of dual-band GNSS operation.
Other hardware highlights include a stainless steel bezel, Gorilla Glass protection and 5 ATM water resistance.
Improved Heart Rate Monitoring and Dual-Band GNSS
For runners who rely on accurate training data, the Suunto Run 2 introduces a redesigned 12-channel wrist heart rate sensor positioned behind 2.5D curved sensor glass.
The smartwatch also supports new-generation dual-band GNSS, tracking L1 and L5 signals across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS satellite systems for improved positioning, distance and pace tracking.
For more detailed heart rate analysis, users can pair the watch with the new Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2.
Together with Suunto ZoneSense, the chest strap provides beat-to-beat heart rate variability data to help runners understand their actual exercise intensity.
Unlike conventional heart rate zones, ZoneSense considers how the body responds during each workout, offering insights into aerobic and anaerobic intensity levels.
Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 Offers Advanced Training Data
Launching alongside the Run 2, the Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 is designed for endurance athletes who require more precise heart rate monitoring during demanding activities.
It uses ECG-based detection to identify QRS-complex artefacts in heart rate and R-R interval measurements, while its redesigned chest strap helps reduce interference from electrostatic discharge.
The heart rate belt supports road running, trail running, cycling, triathlon and winter sports.
It also features a six-axis IMU sensor for running-form measurements, including:
- Running cadence
- Ground contact time
- Vertical oscillation
- Flight time
- Ground Contact Time/Flight Time ratio
- Left and right ground-contact balance
Additionally, the belt offers approximately 460 hours of battery life, up to 20 hours of rolling workout memory and simultaneous Bluetooth connectivity with up to three devices.
When paired with compatible Suunto watches, its stored workout data can also help maintain a continuous training record during temporary signal interruptions.
EnergySense and Live Finish Prediction for Runners
The Suunto Run 2 introduces several features designed to help runners make better decisions during workouts and races.
EnergySense provides real-time insights into current effort relative to remaining capacity, helping runners understand how much energy they are using during a session.
Meanwhile, Live Finish Prediction estimates finishing time based on current pace, allowing runners to assess whether they should maintain, increase or reduce their speed.
For marathon preparation, the Training Plan feature converts performance targets, such as completing a marathon in under four hours, into individual training sessions.
Training Zone also combines training load, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep and recovery information to provide a broader overview of training progress.
On race day, Marathon Mode includes Ghost Runner and other race-focused tools to help runners monitor their target performance.
Free Worldwide Offline Maps and Music Storage
Beyond running performance, the Suunto Run 2 supports free worldwide offline maps that can be downloaded directly onto the watch.
This allows runners to access routes, streets and surrounding areas without relying on an active smartphone connection.
The watch also supports music storage and wireless headphone connectivity, allowing users to listen to music while leaving their phones behind.
